Smalcald Articles

This page contains two ways to assist the presenter in teaching the Smalcald Articles using materials gathered and prepared by Arthur A. Eggert.

The first is composed of 90-minute videos of live class sessions with associated class notes, including reading assignments and study questions. The second is for a more classic presentation with PowerPoint slides and class notes. The presenter should place the dates of the class sessions on the syllabus for the convenience of the students.

Live Recorded Sessions by Arthur Eggert.

This course begins with an overview of the life of Dr. Martin Luther. It then discusses the various sections and sub-sections of the Smalcald Articles, explaining Luther's purpose in writing them. There are five sessions which were taught during spring 2023. The Smalcald Articles are available as a part of the book below or as an online document and are necessary to understand the course. To gain the most from this course, it is recommended that you print out the packet entitled Class Notes-R, do the assigned readings, and answer the study questions for each session before watching that session's video. The reading assignments and study questions are in the class notes. (Note: In Session 4, due to technical issues only the text is shown, not the presenter.)

The Smalcald Articles are available as a part of the book below or as an online document and are necessary to understand the course. To gain the most from this course, it is recommended that you print out the packet entitled Class Notes-C, do the assigned readings, and answer the study questions for each session before class. The reading assignments and study questions are in the class notes. This material is edited to be presented in five 90-minute class sessions and may be reedited by the presenter for use in other formats. The presenter may find the teaching notes developed from the recorded class helpful.
